How to Verify Your Address on Swapin?

To ensure a safe and trustworthy environment for all our customers, we require the submission of certain documents for the verification process. If you apply for Basic or Full verification level, you need to provide proof of address. This guide will walk you through the process to ensure a seamless verification experience.

What is Proof of Address?

Proof of address is a document that verifies your residential address. It is used to confirm your identity and establish your physical presence in a specific location. By submitting an acceptable proof of address, you can comply with EU regulations and enhance the security of your transactions on Swapin.

Acceptable Proof of Address Documents:

To meet compliance requirements, Swapin accepts the following types of documents as valid proof of address:

  1. Recent bills for utilities such as electricity, water, gas, or landline phone services are accepted. 

  2. Statements from banks or credit card companies that display your full name, residential address, and the bank's or credit card company's logo or letterhead are accepted. Stamped and/or signed bank reference letters are also accepted as proof of address.

  3. Statements about your registration at your address from a government portal in your country. Usually, you can download the official document from the portal.

  4. A valid and current rental or lease agreement in your name is accepted. Ensure it contains the property address, your name, and the signatures of both parties involved.

  5. A mortgage statement that displays your name, address, and issuing date can also serve as proof of address. 

  6. Account statements from your internet service provider, bills from landline telephone, internet, TV, or communication packages are accepted. Note that mobile bills are not acceptable.

  7. Letters from tax or government authorities, including tax statements that may go beyond three months but fall within the past year, can be submitted as proof of address.

  8. Disclosure statements issued by body corporate or homeowner associations and Statements issued by building management or property management companies are accepted as proof of address.

  9. Statements or documents from home insurance providers that display your name and residential address are accepted.

  10. Rental agreements from university residences or university housing/halls are accepted if they contain your name, the property address, and the signatures of both parties involved. Letters from a university confirming your identity and current residential address are accepted.


Documents Not Accepted:

While providing proof of address on Swapin, please note that the following documents are not accepted:

  1. Statements from credit cards issued by retail stores are not accepted as proof of address. Please provide documents from recognized financial institutions.

  2. Driver's license is not accepted, even if it shows your residential address.

  3. Utility reference letters and contract confirmations provided by the utility or service provider are not accepted. Instead, submit official utility bills as proof of address.

  4. Payslips and labor contracts are not accepted as proof of address. Choose from the accepted documents mentioned in the previous section.

  5. Transaction receipts, even if they include a delivery or billing address, are not accepted as proof of address. Please submit one of the valid documents listed earlier.

  6. Bank correspondence letters and marketing materials are not considered valid proof of address. Correspondence letters and marketing materials related to mortgages or loans, excluding mortgage/loan statements, are not accepted. Submit official bank statements instead.

  7. Bill statements that do not clearly specify the products or services subscribed are not accepted as proof of address. Medical bills are also not considered valid proof of address. Please choose from the accepted documents listed earlier.

  8. Insurance documents, except for home insurance documents, are not considered valid proof of address. Submit an appropriate document from the accepted list.

  9. Bills from streaming services and mobile phone bills are not accepted as proof of address. Please provide one of the valid documents mentioned previously.

  10. Documents issued to a P.O. Box addresses are not accepted as proof of address. 

What to Do:

To provide the correct proof of address and ensure a smooth verification process, follow these guidelines:

  1. Ensure that the document you submit is no older than three months.

  2. Make sure the document is clear, legible, and free from any alterations or obstructions that may hinder verification.

  3. Double-check that your full name, residential address, and issue date are clearly visible on the document.

  4. Take clear and well-lit scans or photos of the documents or download a PDF, ensuring all details are easily readable. Screenshots are not accepted for verification. Additionally, please ensure that you provide the full document in its entirety, rather than just a partial section of it.


What to Avoid:

To prevent delays or rejections during the verification process, avoid the following pitfalls:

  1. Do not submit documents that have expired or are no longer valid. 

  2. Ensure that all relevant information, such as your full name, address, and issue date, is visible on the document. Partial or incomplete information may lead to rejection.

  3. Do not submit handwritten or self-prepared documents as proof of address. Only official and verifiable documents are accepted.

  4. Do not modify or alter the submitted document in any way, as it may lead to rejection.
